Position Overview:

The Senior Manager of Research and Development is a pivotal leadership role within Thermo Fisher Scientific. This global position is responsible for defining, aligning, and executing product and module roadmaps that drive the growth strategies of our Life Science, Material Science, and Semiconductor Business Units. The TEM Platforms encompass various modules and technologies utilized across TEM product lines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide and inspire a diverse team of over 100 global experts to innovate and develop the next generation of transformative products that advance scientific research.
  • Directly manage and motivate a team of 10-15 Integral Project Leaders, along with numerous external suppliers engaged in product development.
  • Establish a high-performing team focused on project execution excellence, ensuring the delivery of groundbreaking technologies that integrate hardware and software.
  • Oversee the entire TEM Platform Portfolio across three distinct Business Product Units, maximizing efficiency in service and operations through effective New Product Introduction and Sustaining activities.
  • Mentor and develop staff, including resource planning, budgeting, and professional growth, to meet product roadmaps and drive technological advancements.
  • Create comprehensive TEM technology roadmaps that articulate core and non-core elements for future development, emphasizing key technical collaborations and strategic supplier management.
  • Manage the R&D Sustainability roadmap to align with corporate sustainability goals.
  • Provide visionary technical leadership and clearly communicate development strategies to team members, peers, and senior executives.
  • Collaborate with various business departments to ensure alignment of activities and objectives.
  • Promote exceptional quality in product development and support.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years of validated experience in Research & Development or Product Engineering is preferred.
  • A university degree in a technical field is required; a PhD, MBA, or other advanced degree is preferred, or a combination of education and experience demonstrating the necessary skills.
  • Over 10 years of experience in people management.
  • Experience managing budgets exceeding $5-20 million.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, collaborative, and organizational skills.
  • A mindset focused on continuous improvement.
