Position Overview:

The Senior Manager of Research & Development is a pivotal leadership role within Thermo Fisher Scientific. This global position is responsible for defining, aligning, and driving the product and module roadmaps that support the growth strategies of our Life Science, Material Science, and Semiconductor Business Units. The TEM Platforms encompass various modules and technologies that are utilized across TEM product lines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and inspire a diverse team of over 100 global experts to innovate and develop the next generation of groundbreaking products that advance scientific discovery.
  • Directly manage and motivate a team of 10-15 Integral Project Leaders and collaborate with numerous suppliers involved in the development process.
  • Establish a high-performing team focused on project execution excellence, ensuring the delivery of cutting-edge technologies that integrate hardware and software across various project scopes.
  • Oversee the complete TEM Platform Portfolio for three distinct Business Product Units, maximizing efficiency in Service and Operations through effective New Product Introduction and Sustaining activities.
  • Mentor and develop staff, including resource planning, budgeting, and professional growth, to achieve product roadmaps and technological advancements.
  • Formulate comprehensive TEM technology roadmaps that clearly outline core and non-core elements for future development, including strategic collaborations and supplier management.
  • Manage the R&D Sustainability roadmap to ensure long-term viability and impact.
  • Provide visionary technical leadership and articulate development strategies to team members, peers, and senior executives.
  • Collaborate with various business departments to ensure alignment of activities and objectives.
  • Drive exceptional quality in product development and support.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years of validated experience in Research & Development or Product Engineering is preferred.
  • A university technical degree is required; a PhD, MBA, or other advanced degree is preferred, or a combination of education and experience demonstrating the necessary skills.
  • 10+ years of experience in people management.
  • Experience managing budgets exceeding $5-20 million.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, collaborative, and strategic planning skills.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.
