About the Position

We are seeking an Assistant Professor to lead the Computer-Aided Drug Design (CADD) group within the Medicinal Chemistry division at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The successful candidate will develop methodologies in molecular modeling, data management, and machine learning to advance the understanding of ligand-protein interactions.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in drug development, medicinal chemistry, and computational chemistry, with expertise in both ligand-based and structure-based drug discovery. The role requires interdisciplinary collaboration within the division, working closely with synthetic chemists and molecular pharmacologists.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and apply computational techniques for protein structure predictions, molecular dynamics, docking, virtual screening, and structural chemogenomics
  • Manage and analyze large datasets using cheminformatics and bioinformatics tools
  • Collaborate with researchers in the Medicinal Chemistry division to advance the understanding of ligand-protein interactions
  • Develop and teach courses in computational chemistry and medicinal chemistry
  • Secure research funding to support the CADD group
Requirements
  • PhD in computational chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or a related field
  • Strong publication record in computational chemistry and medicinal chemistry
  • Experience in programming and scripting languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
