Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher to join our team at TU Delft and contribute to the development of innovative climate finance policies and instruments. The successful candidate will be part of the Flagship Team on 'Climate Finance' of the cross-faculty Delft Climate Action Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Quantify direct and indirect regional damages from climate-induced hazards, focusing on sea-level rise and river floods, using the latest socio-economic and climate scenarios.
  • Assess the economic effects of alternative public adaptation strategies for the Netherlands, utilizing the PBL climate risk and adaptation scenarios.
  • Conduct statistical analysis of private adaptation actions and their effects on firms' gross value added and sales, creating a ranked matrix of climate adaptation actions for firms by economic sector.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of private climate finance, focusing on private investments in combination with household private adaptation, using actual firms' data.
Requirements
  • MSc degree in Economics, Operations Research, or Econometrics.
  • Working knowledge of at least one of the modeling software/languages, such as GAMS, R, Python, or Julia.
  • Experience with (statistical) data analysis, ideally using STATA, R, or Python.
  • Domain knowledge in climate policy or damage/risk assessment is an asset.
  • Solid problem-solving skills and capacity to take the initiative.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Proven written and verbal English communication skills.
Conditions of Employment
  • Doctoral candidates will be offered a 4-year period of employment, in principle, but in the form of 2 employment contracts.
  • Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, increasing from € 2770 per month in the first year to € 3539 in the fourth year.
  • As a PhD candidate, you will be enrolled in the TU Delft Graduate School, providing an inspiring research environment with excellent supervision, academic staff, and a mentor.
