Education Programme Communications and Outreach Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Communications and Outreach Specialist to support the Technology, Engineering and Quality Directorate of the European Space Agency (ESA) at their location in the Netherlands. The purpose of this role is to support the ESA Education Programme, which aims to enhance the literacy of young people in science and technology and motivate young Europeans to pursue STEM studies and careers related to space.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain the ESA Education Annual Communication Activity Calendar for communication planning and reporting purposes.
- Maintain, publish, and promote the ESA Education and ESAKids web and social media platforms from a front-end perspective, ensuring consistency, scientific accuracy, and completeness of content.
- Monitor social media platforms and interact with audiences to build followership.
- Provide management and publication support to other online platforms under the coordination of ESA Education, including the ISEB website and the ESA/ESERO school project online platforms.
- Propose and implement improvement concepts and actions for the above online platforms.
- Produce and coordinate the production of articles, texts, background information, and multimedia content for online platforms and social media, as well as offline communication products.
- Provide inputs to the production of multimedia content for publication.
- Liaise with external providers for the translation of texts for the ESA Education Office.
- Manage online competitions, activities, and events, including related shipping of goodies and prizes.
- Manage the calendar of appearances of the ESAKids mascot.
- Support the preparation and implementation of communication plans and campaigns for the ESA Education Programme.
- Produce and coordinate visual design and layout work for ESA Education educational, promotional, and outreach items.
- Liaise with Education TV and video production responsible for video integration in other communication products.
- Liaise with external providers for the production, storage, and shipment of physical goodie and outreach material items.
- Support and coordinate the creation and updates of visual guidelines for ESA Education products and online platforms.
- Support and coordinate communication and outreach partnerships with external actors.
- Support and coordinate the Office's contribution to communication and inspirational events.
- Handle and redirect requests received through the ESA Education dedicated external contact mailboxes and social media channels.
- Provide expert input on the evolution of existing ESA Education activities and the definition of new activities.
- Provide expert advice and inputs on outreach and communication trends, non-formal and informal STEM education trends, and online platforms management trends.
- University education in STEM.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in science communication applied to STEM education.
- High proficiency with office automation tools, particularly Microsoft Office suite and electronic mailing.
- Experience with outreach activities related to science and technology.
- High level of flexibility, initiative, and team spirit.
- Candidates must be eligible to work in the EU.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
