Job Description

We are seeking a Client & Market Development Manager to enhance our Client & Market Development division with a focus on European initiatives.

Overview

This role will significantly influence the business strategy for Clifford Chance, initially in Amsterdam, with an expanding focus on cross-border collaboration within Continental Europe. The responsibilities are expected to evolve towards a more international scope in alignment with our strategic objectives in Client and Market Development across Europe.

Key Responsibilities

In this position, you will work closely with legal professionals and CMD team members globally to identify and capitalize on key trends and opportunities within our client portfolio.

  • Assist the Amsterdam Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Tax, Pensions, Employment, and Projects Finance practice areas, providing strategic advice to the leadership teams regarding their commercial initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Amsterdam partners in the aforementioned practice areas to identify growth opportunities for existing and prospective clients, developing actionable plans to harness this potential. Additionally, support the European (fin)tech hub.
  • Aid lawyers in recognizing and pursuing new business prospects, including leading the creation of bid documents (pitches, RFP responses, and capability statements), frequently working with pricing, graphics, and global proposals teams.
  • Engage with CMD colleagues across Europe and globally on strategic cross-border projects to enhance growth in client sectors and service lines, particularly in European tech and fintech initiatives.
  • Manage submissions for league tables and legal directories to elevate our external visibility, in close cooperation with our global submissions team.
  • Oversee client relationship management for one or more major global clients.

Team Dynamics

The CMD Amsterdam team is part of Clifford Chance's expansive global and regional CMD network.

This international team comprises CMD professionals with diverse backgrounds, dedicated to placing clients at the forefront of our efforts. The team includes 3 CMD managers, a CMD coordinator, and 2 Events managers, all reporting to the Head of CMD. Collaboration with our Brand, Communication, and Marketing (BCM) specialists is essential.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a candidate who possesses:

  • An academic degree (bachelor's or master's).
  • At least five years of proven experience in business development or practice management within professional services or law firms.
  • Extensive experience in strategic business planning, key account management, and handling complex RFPs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders, along with well-developed presentation capabilities.
  • The ability to work effectively across different cultures and borders.
  • A proactive attitude towards adapting in a dynamic environment and embracing an increasingly international role.
  • Fluency in English is essential; proficiency in Dutch is a plus.
