Asset Finance Associate – Global Investment Firm

GSAM strategically invests both the firm's own capital and external funds in a variety of asset classes, including corporate equity and debt, real estate, asset-based financing, growth equity, and infrastructure assets globally. GSAM Private Credit stands as one of the largest alternative credit investment platforms globally, managing approximately $110 billion in assets under management with investment professionals located in the US, Europe, Asia, and Australia. This dynamic platform encourages significant collaboration across various strategies, including Direct Lending, Hybrid Capital, Asset Finance, and Investment Grade Corporate and Infrastructure Credit.

AWM Credit – Asset Finance

The Asset Finance sector is a rapidly growing area within Private Credit, concentrating on financing solutions backed by tangible and/or financial collateral. This division provides adaptable funding solutions across the capital structure, engaging in a wide array of asset-based strategies, including real estate financing, specialty mortgages, consumer and SME loans, fund financing, trade receivables, and hard asset financing.

This role offers a significant opportunity to contribute to the development and expansion of our global asset finance platform, gaining exposure to a worldwide team and a comprehensive range of activities that are both diverse and challenging. Responsibilities encompass transaction origination, underwriting, structuring, risk management, and execution.

The investment objectives of our clients may focus on risk or return, but they are often influenced by asset-liability management, accounting, or regulatory capital considerations. We work closely to identify and align with these objectives, utilizing structured finance techniques to assist clients in efficiently expressing their positions through tailored investment solutions. Our asset focus is broad, varying significantly in terms of investment risk and delivery methods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting comprehensive due diligence and business analysis to develop and refine investment theses.
  • Participating in the structuring, negotiation, and documentation of investments.
  • Managing transaction operations, coordinating with various departments including Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Operations.
  • Communicating and defending investment theses to internal stakeholders and committees, including relevant GSAM Investment Committees.
  • Actively monitoring existing investments within the portfolio.
  • Contributing to the pursuit of reporting excellence for our clients.
  • Assisting in platform expansion and potentially introducing new investment strategies.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in fixed income at a bank, asset manager, rating agency, or other relevant financial institution.
  • Strong quantitative, financial modeling, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • A passion for investing, particularly in credit and structured products.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and strong follow-through.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • A flexible and creative mindset, capable of analyzing various industries and businesses.
  • Ability to self-direct, analyze, evaluate, and form independent judgments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, fostering trust and confidence among colleagues and enhancing collaborative relationships.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
