About the Role

As the Editor-in-Chief of our premier molecular biology research journal, you will be responsible for setting the journal's scientific scope and determining its editorial direction. You will lead an editorial team and ensure the quality and quantity of research articles published in the journal. Travel to conferences, seminars, and scientific meetings to build a broad network of domestic and international contacts. Develop and foster partnerships with production, marketing, press, and advertising teams, as well as with other editorial teams at Cell Press. Contribute to the overall publishing strategy of Cell Press.

Responsibilities
  • Refine and expand the strategic focus of the journal
  • Hire and manage a team of scientific editors
  • Establish relationships with and build the advisory board
  • Manage day-to-day operations at the journal
  • Recruit exciting papers within the scope of the journal
  • Collaborate on defining production workflows, marketing, social media, and website
  • Collaborate with editorial teams of relevant Cell Press journals
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in any area of molecular biology
  • 5+ years of full-time editorial experience
  • Broad interest across the full spectrum of molecular biology research
  • Established network with the molecular biology research community
  • Solid project and/or people management skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Interest in engaging with the scientific community
  • Previous management experience is beneficial but not required
