Job Description

At the Access to Medicine Foundation, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced researcher to join our team in Amsterdam. As a researcher, you will play a key role in advancing our research activities, particularly in the area of antimicrobial resistance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive analysis underpinning specific thematic areas of the Antimicrobial Resistance Benchmark or any thematic study, including comparative company analysis and industry-wide trends;
  • Research and analyse efforts by pharmaceutical companies on specific topics such as continuous supply of antimicrobials, prevention of shortages and stockouts, responsible manufacturing across supply chains and antibacterial waste management;
  • Evaluate company performance in antimicrobial resistance by analysing quality-controlled data obtained from the public domain and collected from companies directly;
  • Engage with external stakeholders as needed to develop the methodology for the Antimicrobial Resistance Benchmark or any thematic study. This includes identifying, analysing, and presenting trends in the specific thematic areas of antimicrobial resistance defined in the Benchmark;
  • Collaborate efficiently with other staff members in the research team(s) and those in charge of management, communications, operations and data management and engage with company representatives, as needed;

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in a clinical/biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences or a pharmacy (Pharm D) or medical degree;
  • Experience and background in related disciplines such global health, health policy, sustainability, microbiology, supply chain management, is a plus;
  • Knowledge of health products and/or drug development and regulatory approval processes;
  • Experience working with or within the innovative pharmaceutical, generic medicine, diagnostics or medical device industry (especially in the context of low- and middle-income countries) is a plus;
  • Keen interest or experience working with global health issues;
  • Excellent critical thinker with solid qualitative and quantitative analytical skills. Able to identify relevant trends in large data sets, to present data accurately and concisely with a sharp eye for detail and, to explain conclusions clearly;
  • Advanced skills in Excel (and Office 365 in general). Experience with Airtable, is a plus;
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to set priorities to achieve multiple projects and deadlines, and to identify risks and opportunities and escalate these when appropriate in a timely manner to the line manager(s);
  • Active communicators with excellent command of English, both spoken and written (academic and media styles).

About the Antimicrobial Resistance Programme:

The Antimicrobial Resistance Benchmark (AMR Benchmark) is the first independent analysis of pharmaceutical industry efforts to tackle drug resistance and ensure appropriate access to their products in low- and middle-income countries. It compares how a cross-section of the pharmaceutical companies is responding to the threat of drug-resistant infections. It measures the most active players in the antimicrobial space and includes large research-based companies, manufacturers of generic medicines and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The main areas tracked are R&D for new antimicrobials, strategies for ensuring antibiotics are manufactured responsibly, and approaches to ensure antimicrobials are accessible in low- and middle-income countries and used appropriately.
