About the Position

VU Amsterdam is seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the Amsterdam Institute for Life and Environment (A-LIFE). The successful candidate will contribute to two research projects related to the environmental dimension of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The main focus will be on the development of an in vitro bioassay for AMR selection potential of water samples, as part of the NOSTRA project. Additionally, the candidate will use experimental results to develop an in silico mechanistic model of the relationship between antibiotic exposures and AMR selection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize bioassays for AMR selection potential of water samples
  • Conduct in vitro experiments and data analysis
  • Develop and apply mechanistic models to predict AMR selection
  • Collaborate with researchers from various disciplines to advance the understanding of AMR in aquatic environments

Requirements

  • PhD in (eco)toxicology, microbiology, or a related field
  • Experience with molecular techniques, in vitro toxicity testing, and mechanistic modeling
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

We offer a salary of €4,000-€4,500 gross per month, depending on your education and experience. Additionally, you will receive a position for at least 0.8 FTE and a range of benefits, including a full-time 38-hour working week, holiday leave entitlement, and a contribution to commuting expenses.
