PhD Researcher in Placental Biology and Disease Modeling

As a PhD researcher in our Soft Tissue Engineering and Mechanobiology (STEM) group, you will be working on developing living cell, experimental, and numerical models that mimic and simulate placental function. Your research will focus on correlating experimental models combining various technologies to study the interactions between placental trophoblast cells and organoids, vascular endothelial cells, immune cells, and the extracellular matrix (ECM) in a controlled micro-environment.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement new methodological approaches and experimental setups to study placental biology and disease modeling.
- Conduct scientific research in the field of placental biology and disease modeling, write a doctoral thesis, and publish research results in scientific journals.
- Teach in courses and supervise students at the bachelor's and master's levels offered by the group.
- Interact with other mechanobiology groups and our clinical team at Maxima Medical Center, Veldhoven.
- Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, Materials Sciences, or a comparable discipline.
- Extensive experience with cell and tissue culture, as well as cell-cell signaling pathway manipulation.
- Research-oriented attitude, ability to effectively communicate scientific ideas, and capability for independent thinking.
- Fluent in spoken and written English (C1 level).
- Full-time employment for four years, with an intermediate evaluation after one year.
