About the Position

We are seeking a highly qualified Assistant Professor in Media and Digital Cultures to join our faculty at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to the development of our research and educational programs in Media Studies, with a focus on digital cultures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach and supervise students in our undergraduate and graduate programs, with a focus on media studies and digital cultures.
  • Participate actively in curriculum development, design, and administration of course modules.
  • Conduct world-class research and publish in top-tier journals and conferences, with a focus on emerging issues at the intersection of media and digital cultures.
  • Pursue research grants and other forms of external funding to support your research agenda.
  • Participate actively in international research networks and build collaborations with colleagues from around the world.
  • Contribute to the activities of our interdisciplinary research Centre for Media and Journalism Studies.
Requirements
  • PhD in Media Studies, Communication Studies, or a related field in the Social Sciences and Humanities.
  • Wide-ranging knowledge of theory and research on digital cultures and media from an interdisciplinary and mixed-method perspective.
  • Teaching experience at university level and proven didactic abilities.
  • University Teaching Qualification or willingness to obtain it within two years.
  • Excellent research track record, including relevant publications.
  • Outstanding national and international academic network and strong contacts with professionals in the field.
  • Willingness to make substantial contributions to the development of our research and educational programs.
  • Organisational experience and skills.
  • Excellent command of English (at least CEFR B2/C1 level for reading, listening, writing, and speaking), and willingness to learn Dutch in due course.
What We Offer
  • A salary based on qualifications and experience, ranging from €4,332 to €5,929 gross per month for a full-time position.
  • A holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income.
  • An 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance.
