Research Opportunity in Earth Sciences

We are seeking two highly motivated PhD students to join our research group at VU Amsterdam, focusing on landscape response to retreating glaciers. This project aims to understand the interactions among erosion, topography, and sediment fluxes over millennial timescales in the Western Southern Alps of New Zealand.

Project Overview

The project will consist of two tightly integrated PhD positions:

  • PhD A: Quantifying Post-Glacial Erosion and Sediment Dynamics
  • PhD B: Developing a Next-Generation Landscape Evolution Model

Your Role

As a PhD student, you will be responsible for conducting fieldwork, collecting and analyzing data, and developing and implementing computational models. You will also contribute to teaching and supervising bachelor and master students, and attend and present at international conferences.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates with a strong background in Earth Sciences or a related field, and a willingness to learn and work in a team. You should be comfortable with lab work and/or computational modeling, and have a strong interest in contributing to the development of new research ideas.
