Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Nederland Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam Voltijd
Job Description

We are seeking highly motivated PhD researchers to contribute to our research project on the impact of climate change and mountain building on alpine geohazards. The project aims to understand the interactions among erosion, topography, and sediment fluxes over millennial timescales in the Western Southern Alps of New Zealand.

Research Objectives
  • Quantify post-glacial erosion and sediment dynamics
  • Develop a next-generation landscape evolution model

The successful candidates will be part of a new research group at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, integrating numerical and analytical techniques to study how environmental changes drive landscape evolution. The project includes a guaranteed monthly salary, tuition fees, and funding for field work, analytical expenses, conferences, and travel.

Requirements
  • MSc degree in Earth Sciences or related field
  • Comfortable working in a team and collaborating with other PhD students
  • Ability to learn and implement open-source computational models
  • Willingness to conduct fieldwork in the Southern Alps mountains

We strive for equal opportunities for everyone and believe that diversity is invaluable for the quality of our education, research, and services. We encourage people from under-represented groups to apply.

What We Offer
  • Attractive salary and benefits package
  • Opportunity to work on a high-impact research project
  • Collaborative and dynamic research environment

Applications will remain open until November 15th, and we aim to conduct online interviews in November/December 2024. The start date is negotiable, but ideally in the first half of 2025.
