Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Policy and Partnerships Development Coordinator. In this role, you will assist in engaging with policies from both the Netherlands and Brussels in key areas such as conflict prevention, climate change adaptation, and food & water security.

As a Policy and Partnerships Development Coordinator, you will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in researching and analyzing policy documents and decisions
  • Providing summaries of influential policy documents and decisions
  • Supporting advocacy efforts by organizing and coordinating external engagement opportunities
  • Monitoring the relevant Dutch political landscape and summarizing key policy documents and decisions

You will work closely with the Strategic Partnerships and Policy & Advocacy teams, as well as with the Outreach and Communications Assistant, based in both The Hague and Brussels, and with the wider MCNL team.

To be successful in this role, you will have excellent oral and written skills in Dutch (native level) as well as in English, and a demonstrable passion for the issues we are looking to address.

As a Policy and Partnerships Development Coordinator, you will have the opportunity to gain insights and confidence in policy and advocacy, communications, and other external engagement processes and techniques of an INGO.

You will also have the chance to build planning and organizational skills, learn about INGOs' and governments' involvement in key topical areas such as climate change and adaptation, food security, and humanitarian aid, and contribute to the development of strategic partnerships and policy initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support policy research for international climate negotiations
  • Document, analyze, and advise on policy documents and decisions
  • Organize and coordinate Mercy Corps' contribution to several large external engagement events
  • Support administrative tasks such as keeping the MCNL's contact database up to date

Requirements:

  • Enrolled as a graduate student, majoring in international development, international relations, conflict studies, or a related field
  • Demonstrable interest in the intersection between conflict and climate, humanitarian aid, and food & water security
  • Familiarity with the Dutch policy and development space, and preferably knowledge (or interest in) the advocacy space in the Netherlands
  • Excellent oral and written skills in Dutch (native level) as well as in English
