Junior Software Development Trainee

As a Junior Software Development Trainee at Vereniging Informatiewetenschappen Amsterdam, you will have the exceptional opportunity to delve into the diverse aspects of being a Software Engineer within our organization.

Over a two-year period, you will engage with various teams throughout the company. Experience the process of creating products utilized by numerous clients worldwide and understand the intricacies of delivering customized solutions for individual customers. This role allows you to explore different areas of software engineering and acquire essential skills vital for developing our applications, including back-end, front-end, and cloud engineering. This comprehensive exposure will help you evolve into a well-rounded and proficient software engineer. You will have the chance to work with multiple programming languages such as C#, Python, and SQL. Should you be unfamiliar with these languages, internal training programs will be available to assist you, and you can rely on the knowledge of your colleagues for guidance.

Throughout your traineeship, you will be supported by a performance manager. Together, you will concentrate not only on enhancing your technical skills as a software engineer but also on nurturing your interpersonal skills as a budding professional. By the end of the two years, you will have a clearer understanding of the type of work that energizes you. The variety of projects you undertake will also allow you to build a network within the organization, facilitating the identification of the right career path for you at Vereniging Informatiewetenschappen Amsterdam.

Who are you?

You possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Econometrics, Operations Research, Mathematics, or a related field, and you are prepared to embark on your first or second career step. You have a strong interest in both software engineering and mathematics.

Additionally, you have/are:

  • Capable of managing complex tasks and collaborating effectively within a team,
  • Diligent in keeping up with new technological advancements,
  • Enthusiastic about IT, viewing it as more than just a job,
  • An ambitious individual who thrives in new and challenging environments,
  • Proficient in programming languages such as C#, C++, Java, or similar,
  • Familiarity with modeling is a plus,
  • Inquisitive, adaptable, and able to quickly grasp the essence of problems or situations,
  • Currently residing in the Netherlands and able to communicate fluently in English (both spoken and written).
