Program Officer: Climate Adaptation Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Program Officer to join our team at the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA). As a Senior Program Officer for Infrastructure and Nature-Based Solutions, you will play a critical role in driving climate adaptation efforts across Africa and Southeast Asia.

The GCA is an international organization working to accelerate action on adapting to climate change. We support adaptation solutions at the international and local levels, partnering with the public and private sectors. Our focus is on communities most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, providing priority assistance where needed.

With a strong track record in managing large-scale infrastructure resilience projects, you will lead technical assistance projects in collaboration with Multilateral Development Banks and governmental stakeholders. Your expertise in infrastructure design and finance, cross-sectoral resilience, and nature-based solutions will drive impactful climate adaptation strategies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing innovative technical assistance projects
  • Collaborating with MDB task teams and governmental stakeholders to integrate climate adaptation into key infrastructure projects
  • Conceptualizing and supervising cutting-edge technical assistance projects
  • Coordinating capacity-building activities with regional and international partners
  • Engaging in knowledge development and expanding our network in the infrastructure adaptation sector

In this dynamic role, you will have the opportunity to develop and lead capacity-building activities with global experts, mainstreaming climate resilience across the infrastructure lifecycle. You will also contribute to the on-the-job development of GCA staff and partner organizations.

To be successful in this position, you will require:

  • A master's degree in environmental or civil engineering, or a closely related field emphasizing infrastructure development or climate resilience
  • At least 3-7 years of experience in managing large-scale infrastructure resilience projects
  • Excellent English proficiency and effective communication skills
  • Skilled in facilitating processes and working efficiently in diverse team settings

We offer a competitive salary range of $85,000 - $110,000 per year, commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off. The estimated salary range has been calculated based on industry standards and the location of our headquarters in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
