Space Systems Engineer for Lunar Mission Development

Job Description:

As a Space Systems Engineer for the European Space Agency's (ESA) Lunar Projects Group, you will play a crucial role in developing a comprehensive system model for a lunar surface mission using Model-Based Systems Engineering. This model will serve as a foundational tool to understand and manage the complex interactions and interfaces between various mission components. Your work will directly contribute to the planning and execution of future lunar missions, providing hands-on experience in space systems engineering.

This internship opportunity is part of the Argonaut Program, which aims to develop a lunar lander capable of carrying passengers to the Moon's surface. As an intern, you will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to design, develop, and test the LDE (Lunar Descent Element) and its potential options, ensuring they meet performance, schedule, and budget requirements.

Key activities include:
1. System Modelling: Develop a detailed model representing the architecture and components of a lunar mission, using specialized tools to build a scalable model aligned with mission requirements.
2. Requirements Management: Collaborate with teams to define and manage system and interface requirements, ensuring all requirements are linked to the model and maintain traceability.
3. Interface Definition: Define and integrate mechanical, electrical, thermal, and data interfaces into the model, ensuring smooth interaction between subsystems.
4. Collaboration and Documentation: Work with multidisciplinary teams and document your modeling process, including testing and validation procedures.
5. Testing and Validation: Assist in testing the model to ensure it meets all requirements, refining the model based on test results.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
- University student in final or second-to-last year of a Master's-level course
- Strong understanding of system engineering and model-based system engineering
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
