Customer Support (CS) works towards ensuring the systems in customers' fabs are running at the highest levels of predictability and availability. Our focus is to keep them operational through maximizing yields and minimizing downtime in a cost-effective way to realize our service business objectives.

CS DUV service engineering is part of the CS Central organization and is the (technical) interface between field engineers and Development & Engineering. We are the voice of the field. Our department owns the field service technical & scanner performance landscape and is responsible to define, implement and drive solutions for structural issues to optimize service (cost) for both the install base (> 3000 DUV scanners) and new to be defined systems. 

Your assignment

As an intern in the Optics & Metro Architect Interface team, your main objective is to identify the reasons why certain parts were replaced at customer site and how these failures could be predicted in the future from available monitoring data, allowing an upfront trigger to do a planned replacement ahead of actual failure (proactive approach).

Using part replacement information as a starting point - timestamp and location of replacement with some basic information what part failed, you will work to: 

refine this information based on connecting to customer support engineers on their findings during replacement.

get in tough with local engineers to collect information on symptoms, errors, test performed to diagnose the failures.

get in touch with suppliers via our supply chain engineering department; retrieve supplier learning on the returned failed parts.

from development engineers, get insights into possible ways to detect certain failure.

This input combined should help in identifying commonality in swap reason(s) and based on these common failure modes, the next step is to identify possible ways to predict these failures by monitoring.

Based on past replacement & failure modes, you will analyze existing monitoring data to determine whether clear triggers can be determined that allow scheduled replacement. If no clear trigger can be determined, a secondary step could be to define what additional information needs to be logged to be able to predict identified failures modes.

Your final deliverables will include a comprehensive report detailing out the conducted analysis, used approach, results and findings, and recommendations for future continuation of proactive failure monitoring. 

Your profile

To be the perfect match for this internship, you:

Are a master student in Physics, with a focus on Optics / Projection or Engineering (i.e., Mechanical / Aerospace);

Have experience with Data Analysis and Problem Analysis;

Are able to work in a team, have a structured minded, complimented with can-do attitude and a continuous improvement mindset;

Have excellent communication skills in English, both in writing and speaking.

This is a master apprentice internship as well suitable for graduation. The minimum duration is 5 months, for 4/5 days per week. The start date is open for discussion.
