We have rediscovered the primary of our key brands at a global level and put equities in place that are relevant today and future proofed for tomorrow. We have built far stronger innovation pipelines and these launches are driving increases in both our penetration and value creation. Through skinifiication of our products we are making them more relevant today and providing additional health and wellbeing benefits where relevant. We are building stronger activation plans behind the brands, with superior in-store experiences, extending our physical availabilities and doubling down on driving digital first omnichannel. We are increasing our focus on new geographies: LATAM and China are key focus regions for growth.
We are now moving to the next stage of our transformation which focuses on the turbo drive of our business, to both generate scale through penetration growth and build a new global growth pillar for CB and utilize the resulting incremental profit to fuel growth across the rest of the CB portfolio.
We will focus on 4 strategically important categories: Colour Cosmetics, Fragrances, Body care and Nail + Beauty accessories.
The purpose of this role is to lead the category development for one of these categories, to inform a strong growth objective for each category and how this translates to a robust mid and longer term portfolio strategy and to thus build a robust category growth model. The growth model will be used internally within the CB Category team to inform decision making and also to build a retailer facing strategy for local markets to localize and take to the trade.
THE ROLE
You will work within the newly set up Category team. This team is led jointly between a marketing and commercial lead with participation from all relevant functions covering Strategy & Insights, R&D, Procurement, Supply, Packaging, Finance, and Category Management (you). You will report to the commercial leads within the Category team.
The need to establish a category way of thinking for CB and how this translates to retailers will be essential to unlock this growth. When manufacturers speak to the retailers it is usually through the lens of brands whereas the retailer is more interested in growing the category rather than brands steal. As a result of all these factors, there is a sizeable opportunity to grow through category development.
This role also needs to fully embrace the corporate focus on sustainability through the lens of beauty of our people, our products and our planet.
General Responsibilities
- Set the internal Global CB Category Strategy, how to implement it and how to track progress.
- Translate this to a global brand/pillar and sku level portfolio strategy which can then be adapted to regional clusters and country plans. The country can then translate this to account level strategies.
- Global category strategy is translated into an external retailer facing strategy and detailed action plan.
- Lead the execution of this strategy to retailers through the local Commercial Trade Marketing and Sales teams in key markets
- Set up process for tracking execution of this plan and recommending interventions as necessary to strengthen.
- Build the annual Category Execution plans for AOP and support the strategic plans for the Global 3 Year Plan for your specific category.
- Work with Global and Local Merchandising teams on the implementation of in store excellence, and how the category strategy can be translated in store to the shopper
- Participation in key global T2T retailer meetings from category stand-point and provide guidance for key local T2Ts. Attend localmT2Ts by exception only.
- Support local markets to establish category captaincy projects
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
To be successful in this role, you will bring senior professional expertise and a proven track record in Category Development. This must be from a consumer product category sold through mass retail. Preference would be personal care/beauty.
Detailed Category work within a local market is a requirement. It is important that you know how to leverage global teams and encourage common practice behaviors and standardization through indirect influence.
You must have very solid financial business acumen, have strong capabilities in analytics and data and be able to build strategies that are fact based. You must have the ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive change, both within the Global Marketing team and the local Markets. To excel you will need to harness a real passion for the new and be curious and ambitious. Agility is key.
Key requirements & skills
- Business/Marketing Bachelor’s Degree.
- Previous experience in a market in Category Management within a consumer product industry distributed through mass retailers.
- Customer facing experience is a must
- Highly organized, able to prioritize and to lead a large number and variety of projects at one time, managing internal and external pressures effectively.
- Ability to work across multiple sources and teams and ability to ‘’connect the dots’’
- Demonstrates a strong sense of individual accountability, with strong passion for winning and a bias for action.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders and executive maturity to influence at all levels.
- A finger on the pulse with a passion for beauty and trends.
- Highly curious and uses own initiative to suggest and implement fresh and valuable ideas
- Strong Commercial sense
