Your objectives and responsibilities: 

Your role as a Senior Automation Specialist holds significant importance within CR-NL. You will be a key contributor to our clinical intervention studies on viral infections, with a primary focus on leading the implementation of automation solutions for scaling up of our assays. As a valuable member of our LabOps department, you will report to the Manager Transition Team and collaborate with a dynamic team composed of eight team members that are specialized in transfer and automation of assays.

These will be your key objectives: 

Development of automation systems

Develop automation of plate-based assays (96- and 384-well format), and demonstrate equivalence of results across systems. Project Management of automation projects, including planning of resources and budget, setting timelines and accountability for each deliverable. Proposal for acquisition of (new) equipment after careful evaluation of efficiency gains to optimize lab processes. Set up instrument interfaces and data capture pipelines with the use of programming languages that permit management of data flow from experiment design to analysis and reporting. Development of workflows that support the automation of data analysis. 

Validation of automation systems

Process owner for implementation of semi-automated systems that are GXP compliant (21 CFR part 11) Responsible for meeting agreed timelines for all validation deliverables. Responsible for implementation of these systems in clinical testing (LabOps) Identifying and troubleshooting equipment and software issues. 

Your Qualifications

Bachelor or Master’s degree in either virology, engineering, robotics or data science (alternatively practical experience in one or two of the aforementioned areas). Established expertise working in a similar position (>5 years) that involves the implementation of laboratory automation systems

Recognized competences

Experience in leading and training technical automation teams. Problem solving mindset to tackle arising automation challenges Project management skills with clear and concise communication on progress of activities Strong communication skills to guide intra and inter-departmental efforts during implementation of new systems, and for technical discussions with providers of automation solutions Strong verbal and written command of English at an advanced level Good planning and organization skills Experience in the field of GLP, GCLP, GAMP and ISO17025 is compulsory.
