Onze organisatie:The Willem de Kooning Academy (WdKA), part of Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (RUAS), offers a variety of bachelor and master programs in art, design, education in arts, and leisure management. With a cohort of approximately 1800 students, the Majors are the entry point of study for all students of the BA Fine Art & Design, and the interdisciplinary curriculum is foregrounded through the Autonomous, Social, and Commercial Practices. The Stations (advanced workshops focused on Research through Making) complete the three pillars of the institute.
Social Practices students are introduced to the discourses relevant to cultural production that investigate the commons, new forms of organization and citizenship that intersect with care for the natural and social landscapes we inhabit. Students are challenged to consider the act of making public as inherent to socially engaged practices. The course leader will contribute to the further development of the academy’s interdisciplinary curriculum.

The Course Leader is responsible for:
Facilitating a high-quality learning environment for the teaching team (consisting of approximately 20 tutors (6 FTE) who mostly also work in other teaching teams) and students, where social safety is a priority. Organizational and administrative procedures, which include the execution of the current curriculum, team deployment, evaluation, and budget monitoring. Curriculum development in line with the WdKA Strategic Agenda 2025-2026.

Inspire and lead the team, representing and contributing to WdKA’s core mission Develop the curriculum together with the team Represent (internally and externally) the Social Practices program & research focus Proactively collaborate with the leadership team of Course Leaders, the Research Centre and professors, to build and ensure the integration of the Social Practices study program with other learning and research trajectories Report to the management team
Wat we jou bieden:
Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences offers you a temporary (D4) contract of 0,6 FTE for a year. Starting date is as soon as possible.
The salary ranges from € 4.901,51 minimum to € 6.698,88 maximum per month before taxes, according with HE-CAO salary scale 12, for a full-time appointment, exclusive of additional 8% holiday pay and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.

To further your pedagogical development, you need to be willing to undertake training like the Competency Assessment Course.

Ben jij wie we zoeken?
You should be an arts professional with experience of teaching and able to bring knowledge, creativity and enthusiasm to the delivery of this program, as well as support curriculum development and its implementation.
You have strong experience of contemporary art and design and are familiar with theoretical and practical approaches to current social issues and able to develop knowledge frameworks that understand our entanglement with environmental, social and cultural factors. You are able to facilitate a high-quality learning environment, communicate a broad range of practical and theoretical concerns through hands-on teaching, workshop activities, lectures and seminars. You are able to inspire and motivate students, to design activities appropriate at bachelor level, and have a good understanding of educational and administrative management.
Requirements:
A masters degree or PhD, recent experience of Higher Education teaching, and knowledge of contemporary art & design A BKE (Basis Kwalificatie Examinering) and BDB (Basis Didactische Bekwaamheid) Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and gain the confidence of a wide range of people working across the academy Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multi-task and to prioritize workload Budget and line management experience Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects within a complex program of activity Familiarity with relevant artistic and design research methodologies, focus issues, and wider knowledge frameworks Fluent in Dutch and English, both verbally and in written form A valid EU/ECC work permit
