OurData Platform
Our department is called DataDifferentiation Platform (DDP). We operate Thor, a full-fledgedcloud data platform built around an ELT datastore powered byDatabricks and Azure. Thor's aim is the decentralization of theoperational loads following the principles of the Data Mesharchitecture. You can find out more about how it works in this blogpost. Our ambition is to make Thor a strong platform template thatwe can easily redeploy to also empower the other 16 brands underthe Ahold flag.


Offering thebusiness stakeholders tools to onboard and use data is only oneside of the analytics platform work: the users need to be able tofind the right sources, understand them, and trust them, toultimately use them for their work and create tangible businessvalue. This is where the team we are recruiting for comes intoplay.

Theteam
The Data Quality Framework and DataCatalog (DQFDC) team has a pivotal role in ensuring dataaccessibility and reliability. As you may have guessed from ourself-explanatory name, our main products are a Data QualityFramework (DQF) and a DataCatalog:

  • DQF is a full stack webapplication whose purpose is to make the definition and monitoringof data quality accessible to non-technicalstakeholders
  • The Data Catalog is MicrosoftPurview, and our role in working with it is to collect technicalmetadata from any source inside AH, ingest it, transform it intomeaningful descriptions for the users, and ultimately push thisinformation to Purview via API

Wealso experiment with new technologies that might be onboarded bythe rest of the department.
We always have onetrainee in our team, as our focus on continuous learning andcollaboration is a perfect fit for such an experience.
Besides those two main products, we also assist ourstakeholders in using our tools, build auxiliary tools to respondto auditing and governance needs, and occasionally participate inauditing operations.

Responsibilities:
The DQFDC teamhas a background mainly in Data Engineering and PlatformEngineering. Building data products has a strong component inSoftware Engineering, and we would like someone with this specificbackground to help us consolidate our Software Engineeringengineering practices in a collaboration-driven way. Youwill:

  • Design, implement, and maintainfull stack data tools forgovernance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders tohelp them define data quality checks and monitoringmechanisms.
  • Ensure seamless integration withcloud infrastructure (Azure) and implement Infrastructure as Code(Terraform).
  • Develop APIs using FastAPI forefficient data access andmanipulation.
  • Contribute to frontendtechnologies (React) to enhance userexperience.

  • Bachelor'sdegree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or relatedfield.
  • Proven experience as a Senior PythonDeveloper with expertise in testing and backenddevelopment.
  • Familiarity with cloudinfrastructure and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform); Azureexperience is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in APIdesign and development, preferably withFastAPI.
  • Interest in frontend technologies(React); prior experience is a plus.
  • Basic SQLknowledge.
  • An interest for data-relatedtechnologies and business applications.
  • Apreference for collaborative work (pair/mob programming) and forkeeping a positive working environment where we can offer open anddirect feedback, but with kindness
  • Curiosity,but striving for pragmatism: we always want to try new things, butwith an eye on sustainability, in terms of shipping times,maintenance, security, and cloudcosts
