ZOLA Electric was born in and around the Serengeti in Tanzania, initially installing smart, connected devices (batteries and solar) that powered basic energy needs such as lighting for rural communities. Our theory that thousands of networked, connected devices will form the basic architecture of energy provision in emerging markets holds today. ZOLA doesn’t design discrete hardware products sold to end users, we design an enterprise technology platform that combines the power of a family of hardware devices all controlled and managed by one operating system, VISION. Our customers are regional and global integrators who are building and managing distributed grids and providing electricity to individual homes, local communities, and businesses in emerging markets. We design, implement, and help them manage and support these grids with our comprehensive platform consisting of hardware, software, and services that enable our customers to start at any size deployment, and scale to millions of entities creating local, profitable, and sustainable businesses. Today we are proud to say that our technology platform delivers reliable, affordable, and smart power in over 10 countries, and four continents, to almost 3 million people, schools, clinics, and businesses. Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Business Development Director with at least 10 years of sales experience in a B2B environment, ideally in enterprise technology solutions. You will focus on driving sales, achieving business growth, and collaborating with other departments to meet revenue targets. This position reports to the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Business Development : Identify, evaluate, and prioritize business opportunities that align with the company's growth objectives. Develop and implement strategic plans to penetrate new markets and expand the company's B2B footprint.
  • Partnership Management : Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including industry partners, suppliers, and clients. Act as the primary point of contact for key partnerships and negotiate beneficial terms.
  • Sales Leadership : Drive the sales process from lead generation to deal closure. Develop and maintain a robust sales pipeline and oversee the entire sales cycle to meet and exceed revenue targets.
  • Market Research : Conduct market research to identify trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape. Use this information to inform business development strategies and identify new opportunities for growth.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration : Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment on business development initiatives and seamless execution of deals.
  • Reporting and Analysis : Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to business development. Analyze sales data to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • At least 10 years of sales experience in a B2B environment, preferably in enterprise technology solutions.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field is a plus.

Additional Requirements:

  • This work entails extensive traveling across North Africa and the Middle East three weeks per month and and spending one week per month in our Amsterdam office.
  • Travel may be required to support business development efforts in other emerging markets, including other parts of Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
  • Proficiency with CRM tools and a data-driven approach to decision-making.

Compensation:

  • Base salary up to 100,000 Euros + generous commission + stock options
