PhD Student in Metabolomics and Fermentation Research

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our research team at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The successful candidate will be working on a fully-funded 4-year PhD position in metabolomics and fermentation research.
The project focuses on developing metabolomics workflows to study the metabolic changes observed through fermentation of plant substrates. The candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing LC-MS and NMR-based metabolomics methods, as well as cultivating microbial cultures to study metabolism of plant substrates.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, or a related discipline, and previous experience in handling HPLC, MS or NMR techniques is considered an asset. Strong communication, organizational and social skills are also essential for this position.
We offer a challenging position in a socially engaged organization, with a salary of € 2.872,00 (PhD) and maximum € 3.670,00 (PhD) gross per month in the fourth year, for a full-time employment. The employment contract is initially 1 year, with the possibility of extension to a total of 4 years.

What We OfferWe offer a full-time 38-hour working week with a holiday leave entitlement of 232 hours per year, as well as an 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. We also offer a solid pension scheme (ABP) and contribution to commuting expenses.
We are located on one physical campus, in the heart of Amsterdam's Zuidas business district, with excellent location and accessibility. Over 6,150 staff work at the VU and over 31,000 students attend academic education.
