About the Job
VU Amsterdam is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our team in the field of microbial metabolism and fermentation. The successful candidate will be part of a research project focused on improving the predictability of fermentation processes to develop tasty, healthy, and sustainable plant-based foods.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and carry out experiments with state-of-the-art analysis in molecular microbiology, omics technologies, systems biology, and bioinformatics
- Analyze and interpret data to identify relevant enzymes and pathways for plant-based fermentations and predict microbial behavior of single and mixed cultures
- Present research findings internally and at scientific meetings
- Contribute to the writing of scientific publications leading to a dissertation
- Supervise and teach students
Requirements
- Master's degree in a relevant field, such as molecular microbiology, biotechnology, biochemistry, or systems biology
- Experience in working in a microbiological or biochemical laboratory
- Strong interest in metabolism, high-throughput microbiological technologies, and pathway analysis
- Excellent planning, analytical, and writing skills
- Good team worker

In return for your efforts, we offer a salary of €2,000-€3,000 gross per month in the fourth year, a full-time employment contract of initially 1 year, and attractive fringe benefits and arrangements.
