Research Project Overview

The Health, Medical and Neuropsychology department at Universiteit Leiden is seeking a PhD researcher to contribute to a research project investigating the interplay between somatic and mental symptoms in patients with migraine. The project aims to explore how psychological factors, such as pain-expectancies and behavioral avoidance, impact migraine using real-time Ecological Momentary Assessments (EMA).

Key Responsibilities

- Design studies to examine the influence of psychological factors on migraine and mental symptoms
- Recruit patients and assist with data acquisition
- Collaborate with therapists to set up interventions and carry out data handling and network analyses
- Write articles for a PhD dissertation

Requirements

- Master's degree in Health and Medical Psychology or Clinical Psychology, or a closely related field
- Good social and communication skills and enthusiasm for collaborating with healthcare professionals
- Affinity with network theory and related measures, such as EMA and SCEDs
- Analytical, methodological, and statistical skills, preferably in R
- Experience with or interest in working with psychophysiological measures, such as heart rate variability assessments

What We Offer

- An employment contract as a PhD researcher, initially for 1 year, with the possibility of extension for 3 years after a positive evaluation
- A salary of €2,872-€3,670 gross per month, based on a full-time appointment (38 hours)
- Flexible working hours and a holiday allowance (8%), an end-of-year bonus (8.3%), and an attractive pension scheme at ABP

About the Department

The Health, Medical and Neuropsychology department is part of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, which consists of five institutes: Centre for Science and Technology Studies, Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology, Political Science, and Psychology. The faculty has approximately 7,000 students and 1,000 staff members. Within the institutes, not only education is provided but also groundbreaking research is conducted that pushes the boundaries of our understanding of human behavior and societal structures.
