PhD Researcher in Social Intelligence Modelling

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our team at the Social Intelligence Modelling lab (SIMlab) and the Text Mining and Retrieval group at Universiteit Leiden.
Key Responsibilities- Gather, curate, and compile narrative datasets to support our research in social intelligence and natural language processing.
- Develop and implement an infrastructure for pre-training language models with varying sizes and architectures.
- Evaluate language models on a variety of measures and downstream tasks to advance our understanding of social intelligence.
- Publish articles in academic journals and present at international conferences to share our research findings.
- Collaborate with other PhD researchers and senior researchers within the faculty to foster a collaborative research environment.
- Assist in relevant teaching and organizational activities to contribute to the academic community.
- A Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in machine learning and generative AI.
- Demonstrable experience with model training and a strong track record of academic achievement.
- An open mind towards novel approaches and the ability to think interdisciplinarily.
- Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to work effectively in an international environment.
- A background check may be part of the selection procedure.
We offer a full-time 1-year term position for initially one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and compatibility. The salary ranges from € 2,872,- to € 3,670,- gross per month (pay scale P in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities). Additionally, we offer a benefits package with additional holiday and end-of-year bonuses, training and career development opportunities, and sabbatical leave.
