Lead Commercial Underwriting Team at Zurich Insurance

Zurich Insurance presents an exceptional opportunity for a senior professional seeking to take their career in commercial underwriting to new heights. We are currently seeking a Head of Liability, Financial Lines & Cyber to join our dynamic team.

As the Head of Liability, Financial Lines & Cyber for Zurich Insurance Benelux, you will have the opportunity to lead a team of experienced managers and market-facing underwriters. Your expertise will be pivotal in expanding our International and Domestic book of business, aligning with our strategic objectives.

This is a full-time hybrid role where you will be working from our office in The Hague, Netherlands, or Zaventem, Belgium; and report to the Chief Underwriting Officer, Zurich Insurance Europe.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate specialized knowledge and expertise in insurance products and the industry.
  • Monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating manual rules.
  • Recommend and implement action plans based on agency books of business, profit/growth results, and trends.
  • Manage relationships with internal stakeholders to identify service improvement opportunities for commercial viability and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents and brokers) to retain and acquire business and determine insurance-related needs of customers and distributors.
  • Establish key performance targets and financial budgets to optimize business performance.
  • Review complex analysis conducted by others and provide technical/professional recommendations to improve business performance in the medium and longer term.
  • Participate in leadership team meetings to provide guidance and enable implementation of policy, projects, and change initiatives.
  • Participate in a community of global/regional proposition development practitioners to share best practices and meet customer needs.
  • Oversee development plans for underwriters to drive business results within your area of responsibility.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor or master degree and 10 or more years of experience in commercial insurance
  • Strong leadership skills and extensive experience as a manager
  • Advanced and in-depth knowledge of insurance products and lines of business.
  • Skilled in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiating.
  • Strong presentation skills and a solutions and service orientation
  • Fluent in both Dutch and English (French is an advantage)
  • Willingness to travel between our offices in the Hague, Netherlands and Zaventem, Belgium is required
