Mechanical Engineering Internship: Redesign of Optical Fiber Packaging

We are seeking a talented Mechanical Engineering student or recent graduate to join our team as an intern and contribute to the redesign of our optical fiber packaging. As a member of our Opto-mechanical Competence Group, you will work closely with our experts to gather and share knowledge on opto-mechanical design principles for optical fibers.
Your AssignmentOur current packaging for optical fibers is not sufficient, resulting in a high number of damaged fibers during transport and handling. We want to reduce the number of transports related to damaged optical fibers, so we need your help to investigate and improve the packaging. Your tasks may include:
- Familiarizing yourself with existing fiber packaging and related design standards;
- Investigating transport and packaging related optical fiber damage;
- Proposing design concepts to improve packaging;
- Preparing drawings and documentation for the new packaging design;
- Documenting and evaluating the test procedure;
- Ordering, building, and testing the new design (if time allows).
To be a good fit for this internship, you should have:
- A bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field;
- A solution-oriented mindset and hands-on experience with opto-mechanical designs;
- Experience with CAD modeling (preferably NX);
- Good English communication skills (verbal and written).
