Optical Fiber Packaging Redesign Internship Opportunity

Introduction
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineering student to join our team at ASML as an intern. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a challenging project related to the redesign of optical fiber packaging.
Background Information
The Opto-Mechanical Competence Group at ASML is responsible for collecting and sharing opto-mechanical knowledge with design engineers. The Optical Fiber team focuses on opto-mechanical design principles for optical fibers, often connected to a powerful light source. The team's primary goal is to gather and communicate designs and make knowledge-sharing practices common.
Your Assignment
The goal of this assignment is to investigate transport-related fiber damage in relation to packaging and transport conditions. The successful candidate will be responsible for familiarizing themselves with existing fiber packaging and related design standards, investigating transport and packaging-related optical fiber damage, and proposing design concepts to improve packaging.
Your Tasks
- Familiarize yourself with existing fiber packaging and related design standards;
- Investigate transport and packaging-related optical fiber damage;
- Investigate how packaging can be improved and propose design concepts;
- Prepare drawings and documentation (TPD) to modify packaging;
- Document and evaluate the test procedure;
- Order, build, and test the design (if time allows).
Your Profile
To be a match for this internship, you should have a bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, be solution-oriented, have experience with opto-mechanical designs, and have good English communication skills.
This is a graduation/apprentice internship for 4-5 days a week with a duration of 4 to 6 months. The start date is around September.
