Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team at VU Amsterdam. The successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of nanoscale photothermal heating, exploring new strategies for controlling heat at the smallest scales using light.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and fabricate nanostructures using modeling and lithography techniques
  • Investigate photothermal processes using time-resolved and steady-state spectroscopic and imaging methods
  • Develop experimental setups for light-driven physics and chemistry
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to advance research
  • Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations
  • Supervise students and assist with teaching

Requirements

  • Master's degree in physics, physical chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related field
  • Practical skills in physical experiments and/or building optical/spectroscopic setups
  • Prior research experience in nanophotonics, photochemistry, cleanroom fabrication, and/or optical microscopy and spectroscopy
  • Familiarity with computational tools and data analysis software
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Team-player mentality and social attitude
