Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Nederland AMOLF Voltijd

AMOLF, a leading research institute in the Netherlands, is seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team at Amsterdam Science Park. This four-year appointment will involve developing novel optically and electrically active layers for Si heterojunction (SHTJ) cells without sacrificing power production.

Job Description

We are looking for a talented candidate with a strong background in physics, chemistry, materials science, or engineering to work on this project. The successful applicant will design and fabricate light trapping textures on thin solar cells using our expertise on nature-inspired rationally designed dielectric textures with correlated disorder.

The researcher will also investigate the introduction of metallic nanoscale networks based on sustainable metal alternatives (e.g., Cu), working as transparent electrodes. They will learn cleanroom and electrochemical deposition methods to fabricate nanopatterned metal and metal oxide networks.

Requirements
  • BSc degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, or engineering
  • Strong background in solar cell development and materials science
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Benefits

This position offers a stimulating and collaborative work environment, with opportunities for professional growth and development. You will benefit from access to state-of-the-art facilities, including a cleanroom for nanofabrication and characterization.

As a PhD researcher, you will receive a competitive salary of €33,300 per annum, paid by NWO-I, which includes an 8% holiday allowance and a year-end bonus of 8.3%. After successful completion of your PhD, you will be awarded a PhD degree by the University of Amsterdam.

You will also have access to various courses and training programs specifically designed for PhD students, as well as support for housing and visa applications if needed.
