Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team at VU Amsterdam. The successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of nanoscale photothermal heating, exploring new strategies for controlling heat at the smallest scales using light.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and fabricate nanostructures using modeling and lithography
  • Use time-resolved and steady-state spectroscopic and imaging techniques for studying photothermal processes
  • Design and build experimental setups for light-driven physics and chemistry
  • Initiate and lead complementary research collaborations with internal and external partners
  • Disseminate research through peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations
  • Supervise bachelor and master students during internships and assist with teaching

Requirements

  • Master's degree in physics, physical chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related field
  • Strong practical skills in physical experiments and/or building optical/spectroscopic setups
  • Prior research experience in nanophotonics, photochemistry, cleanroom fabrication, and/or optical microscopy and spectroscopy
  • Familiarity with computational tools and data analysis software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Team-player mentality and kind, social attitude
