Job Title: Senior Operations Coordinator

Job Summary:

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Operations Coordinator to join its team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in planning, coordinating, and monitoring all OPCW missions, ensuring the effective implementation of the Inspectorate Mission Plan (IMP) and providing inspection situation briefings to management.

Main Responsibilities:

The Senior Operations Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Conducting mid and short-term chemical weapons and industry inspection planning, including reviewing the annual verification plan, preparing a detailed resource-based analysis, and identifying resource limitations and developing an implementable Inspectorate Mission Plan (IMP).
  • Facilitating the selection of Inspection Team Leaders (ITLs) and proposing the composition of Inspection Teams, in accordance with agreed KPIs with Inspection Team Personnel (ITP) Units and the Programme Control and Monitoring Branch (CMB).
  • Planning for the implementation of the world-wide OPCW verification regime for Chemical Weapons, including monitoring States Parties' Annual Destruction Plans and developing long-term options for on-site verification of compliance with the CWC.
  • Overseeing the implementation of short-term chemical weapons and chemical industry inspection plans, including coordinating chemical weapons and industry inspections annually, as well as non-routine mission planning to include contingency planning.

Qualifications and Experience:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • An advanced university degree in business administration, engineering, or a related field, or a first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience (minimum 9 years).
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in activities related to the planning and movement of personnel and sensitive equipment, including experience working in an environment that handles classified information.
  • Desirable skills and experience include experience in logistics and administrative management, crisis management, transport and handling of dangerous goods, and using resource scheduling applications or project management software.

Skills and Competencies:

  • A thorough understanding of the overall planning and operational/logistical support requirements associated with the movement of personnel and equipment by air, rail, and road.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work well with others under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure, with a well-developed sense of judgment and the ability to work harmoniously in a multi-cultural environment.

Language: Fluency in English is essential, and a good working knowledge of one of the other official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is desirable.
