Assistant Professor in Biomedical Optics

We are seeking an exceptional researcher to join our team as an Assistant Professor in the field of experimental optics and/or photonics, with a focus on biomedical applications. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of novel optical and photonic concepts and their application in biomedical technologies, such as imaging, sensing, and manipulation of biomaterials.
The Assistant Professor will join the Molecular Biosensing research group at the Department of Applied Physics and Science Education, where they will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, including physicists, chemists, and biomedical engineers. The group has access to state-of-the-art research facilities, including microscopes and wet-chemical labs.
Responsibilities- Conduct high-quality academic research in the field of biomedical optics and photonics.
- Develop and teach courses in optics and photonics for the Applied Physics bachelor and master programs.
- Collaborate with other researchers and industry partners to develop novel biomedical technologies.
- Acquire external research funding to support their research program.
- Supervise students and staff, and contribute to the development of the research group.
- PhD in (applied) physics or a comparable domain.
- Background in optics, nanophotonics, or related technologies, with a clear affinity for biophysical and biomedical applications.
- Ability to conduct high-quality academic research, reflected in demonstratable output.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, including coaching and mentoring of students and staff.
- Excellent (written and verbal) proficiency in English.
