Job Description:We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team at Erasmus MC, a leading university medical center in the Netherlands. The successful candidate will be part of a 4-year research project focused on developing novel antimicrobials for bacterial airway infections.
Background:Antibiotic resistance is a growing concern worldwide, and new treatments are urgently needed to combat bacterial infections. Our research group has previously identified compounds with antimicrobial activity against respiratory bacteria, but further investigation is required to understand their mechanisms of action and effects on host responses.
Research Objectives:- To investigate the efficacy of these compounds as treatment options for S. pneumoniae and P. aeruginosa infections.
- To develop optimal treatment regimens using lung organoids, primary macrophages, and mouse models for bacterial pulmonary infection.
- To assess the impact of these compounds on host responses and bacterial growth.
- Master's degree or equivalent in Biomedical Sciences, Biomolecular Life Sciences, Biology, or related disciplines.
- Strong background in cell culture, bacterial flow cytometry, and data analysis.
- Experience with animal experimentation and handling.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
