Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our research team at TU Delft. The successful candidate will work on developing new methods to quantify geological, technical, and economic uncertainties during geothermal exploration and appraisal. The research will focus on developing and applying new workflows and techniques to constrain uncertainties in geothermal resources.

The PhD candidate will simulate heat and fluid flow for ensembles of reservoir models, support data collection for geothermal systems, and perform probabilistic techno-economic assessments. The results will inform the design of an open-source toolkit for geothermal exploration and appraisal, as well as tailored communication and training materials for stakeholders in geothermal energy.

The ideal candidate holds a relevant MSc degree in applied geology, hydrogeology, or (geothermal) reservoir engineering. Experience in integrating geoscience with fluid flow modeling or knowledge in simulating heat and fluid flow processes is highly desirable. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for this highly interdisciplinary and international research environment.

As a PhD candidate at TU Delft, you will be part of a vibrant and diverse community of researchers and engineers. You will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, as well as opportunities for professional development and networking. The TU Delft Graduate School provides a comprehensive program for PhD candidates, including training in research skills, communication, and leadership.

Requirements
  • Relevant MSc degree in applied geology, hydrogeology, or (geothermal) reservoir engineering
  • Experience in integrating geoscience with fluid flow modeling or knowledge in simulating heat and fluid flow processes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Conditions of Employment

The PhD position is offered for a period of 4 years, with a 1.5-year contract followed by a 2.5-year contract. The salary is in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, increasing from €2872 per month in the first year to €3670 in the fourth year. The TU Delft offers a customizable compensation package, discounts on health insurance, and a monthly work costs contribution.

For international applicants, TU Delft has a relocation service to help with the move to the Netherlands. The Coming to Delft Service provides information and support for new international employees and their partners.
