Research Opportunities

You will work on two projects with the QDNL team. The first project involves designing and building a highly reliable optical lattice clock based on the AQuRA project. This clock will be distributed through fibre links across the Netherlands and Europe with partners from VSL and VU. The second project focuses on creating continuously operating optical clocks, including a superradiant clock and a zero-deadtime, multi-ensemble clock. These clocks aim to achieve a precision of 10^-18 in minutes, unlocking new possibilities in fundamental science and society.

Your Profile

  • A master degree in atomic, molecular, or optical physics, preferably with experience in ultracold atom or trapped ion experiments.
  • Motivation to work with an ambitious team in a challenging research field.
  • Good command of English.

Our Offer

A temporary contract for 38 hours per week for 4 years, with a possibility of extension. The preferred starting date is autumn-spring. This position leads to a dissertation (PhD thesis). We will draft an educational plan, including courses and international meetings. You will also assist in teaching undergraduates and master students.

The gross monthly salary, based on 38 hours per week and dependent on relevant experience, ranges between € 2, to € 3, (scale P). This includes 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% year-end allowance. A favourable tax agreement, the '30% ruling', may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The Collective Labour Agreement of Universities of the Netherlands is applicable.
