Job Overview

As a Chief Engineer specializing in towage, you will be pivotal in ensuring the seamless operation of all machinery within the engine room. Your role encompasses overseeing the safety and functionality of onboard systems, playing a vital part in enhancing operational effectiveness while adhering to safety protocols and executing towing operations without a hitch.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Supervise the engine room staff, particularly on larger towage vessels.
  • Oversee the operation, upkeep, and repair of machinery and systems, focusing on the specific requirements of towing operations.
  • Plan and implement maintenance and repair tasks, prioritizing the reliability of essential systems during towing activities.
  • Ensure adherence to both international and local maritime laws, with a strong focus on regulations pertinent to towage.
  • Manage logistics related to fuel, oil, lubricants, and other critical supplies to facilitate effective towing operations.
  • Serve as the essential communication link between the Master and engine room personnel, ensuring clear coordination during towing missions.

Qualifications:

  • Required certifications such as STCW, including a valid Chief Engineer competency.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Chief Engineer, ideally within the towage sector.
  • Comprehensive understanding of machinery and systems specifically associated with towage.
  • Profound knowledge of maritime regulations and safety protocols relevant to towage.
  • Strong command of the English language, both spoken and written.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and effective communication skills.
  • Capacity to perform under pressure and respond adeptly in emergency situations.
