We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team at VU Amsterdam, working on cryogenic sensing and vibration isolation for gravitational waves. As a member of our research group, you will contribute to the development of innovative solutions for the next-generation gravitational-wave detector, the Einstein Telescope.
Key Responsibilities- Investigate sensing, actuation, and seismic isolation solutions for cryogenic detectors, including superconducting sensing and actuation.
- Develop and implement finite element modeling and instrumentation techniques to optimize detector performance.
- Contribute to the design, prototyping, and installation of suspensions for new optics in the Virgo detector upgrade.
- Collaborate with our international team of researchers to advance the field of gravitational-wave astronomy.
- Master's degree in physics or a related field.
- Proficient in English and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Skills in finite element analysis and/or superconductivity are desirable.
As a PhD researcher at VU Amsterdam, you will have access to state-of-the-art facilities, a global network of gravitational-wave researchers, and a competitive salary package. We offer a full-time employment contract for 4 years, with a salary of €2,000-€3,000 gross per month in the fourth year. You will also receive attractive fringe benefits and arrangements, including a full-time 38-hour working week, holiday leave entitlement, and contribution to commuting expenses.
