Project Overview
The VU Amsterdam is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join a research project exploring the selection process of political elites in Europe. The project, funded by the Dutch Research Council NWO, aims to investigate how personality traits influence the selection process for politicians.
Research Objectives
- To analyze quantitative data on personality traits valued by citizens in politicians
- To design and conduct a quantitative panel study on the ambition and success of local politicians
- To contribute to data collection throughout all stages of the project
- To write and submit scientific articles to peer-reviewed journals
- To participate in research seminars and conferences
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Designing and conducting the panel study on local politicians
- Contributing to data collection and analysis
- Writing and submitting scientific articles
- Participating in research seminars and conferences
Requirements
To be eligible for this position, the candidate should have:
- A master's degree in political science or a related discipline
- Proficiency in quantitative methods and research design
- Programming skills (e.g., Stata, R, Python)
- Excellent oral and written English skills
- Enthusiasm for working in an interdisciplinary team
