We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our research team at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary project that explores the selection process of political elites in Europe.
Research ProjectThe project aims to investigate how personality traits influence the selection process of politicians. We will examine the impact of personality traits at various stages of the selection process, from the initial ambition of citizens to the promotion and retention of national MPs. The project will also explore the role of voters and selectorates in this process.
Responsibilities- Design and conduct a quantitative panel study on the ambition and success of local politicians
- Analyze quantitative data on personality traits valued by citizens in politicians
- Contribute to data collection throughout all stages of the project
- Write and submit scientific articles to peer-reviewed journals
- Participate in research seminars and conferences
- Complete PhD courses to enhance research skills
- Master's degree in political science or a related discipline
- Research master's degree and/or familiarity with political psychology
- Proficiency in quantitative methods and research design
- Programming skills (e.g., Stata, R, Python)
- Excellent oral and written English skills
- Enthusiasm about working in an interdisciplinary team
