Design and Proposal Engineer

Damen Shipyards is a leading manufacturer of advanced military and governmental vessels, specializing in the development and sales of cutting-edge naval architecture. Our company is part of the Offshore and Specialized Vessels division, tackling large, engineering-to-order projects that push the boundaries of innovation.
The RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled Design and Proposal Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our naval architecture department, you will be responsible for translating customer requirements into the design of a vessel in close cooperation with our Sales department. Your primary duties will include:
- Designing vessels in accordance with client criteria;
- Providing technical support to the Damen Sales organization during the contracting process;
- Optimizing (standard) designs to lower price and enhance quality, reliability, and functionality;
- Liaising with internal departments and external parties for optimal project results;
- Keeping track of overall progress in the pre-sales phase;
- Managing internal stakeholders;
- Product development and optimization, including market research and concept design;
- Setting up project planning, calculating supplemental work and cost savings, and preparing lists of deviations and client-specific data;
- Preparing ship designs, specifications, cost calculations, and build strategies for sales prospects;
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Designing vessels that meet client requirements;
- Providing technical support to the Damen Sales organization;
- Optimizing designs to improve quality and functionality;
- Liaising with internal and external parties;
- Managing project progress and stakeholders;
- Developing and optimizing products;
- Setting up project planning and calculations;
- Preparing ship designs and specifications;
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor or Master degree in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture;
- Work experience in ship design, preferably dependent on entry level;
- A customer-orientation, flexibility, and ability to work on various projects simultaneously;
- Excellent communication skills in English and preferably in Dutch;
- The ability to express yourself well in a business conversation;
- Willingness to travel to clients worldwide.
