We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team at the Eindhoven University of Technology. As a PhD researcher, you will be working on the development of ultrafast organic optoelectronic devices, with a focus on quantum mechanical modelling.

What is it about?

Organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) are widely used in various applications, but their potential for ultrafast optical communication is still largely unexplored. In this project, you will investigate the underlying quantum mechanical processes that determine the switching speed of OLEDs, with the aim of developing new materials and devices for high-speed optical communication.

The Research Team

You will be part of the Molecular Materials and Nanodevices group, which is embedded in the departments of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry and Applied Physics and Science Education. Our team is known for its interdisciplinary approach, and you will have the opportunity to collaborate with experimental researchers and industrial partners.

What will you learn?

As a PhD researcher, you will learn how to work with quantum mechanical modelling software, such as Bumblebee, and how to calculate simulation input from basic quantum mechanical principles. You will also gain experience in working with AI and machine learning algorithms, and you will develop your skills in teaching and coaching students.

Key Challenge

The key challenge in this project is to understand how the underlying quantum mechanical processes determine the ultimate switching speed of OLEDs. You will investigate the role of excitons and charges in the switching process, and you will develop new materials and devices that can operate at high speeds.

Job Requirements
  • A master's degree in theoretical/computational Physics or Chemistry
  • Basic knowledge of AI and machine learning
  • A research-oriented attitude
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
  • Motivated to develop your teaching skills and coach students
  • Fluent in spoken and written English (C1 level)
Conditions of Employment

We offer a full-time employment contract for four years, with an intermediate evaluation after nine months. You will spend 10% of your employment on teaching tasks, and you will have access to high-quality training programs and other support to grow into a self-aware, autonomous scientific researcher.
