Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced researcher to join our team as a Maritime Professional Doctorate Researcher. The successful candidate will conduct practice-oriented research that contributes to the sustainability, safety, and competitiveness of the maritime sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research in the maritime sector, focusing on sustainability, safety, and competitiveness.
  • Develop and implement novel repair methodologies, such as the cold spray method, to enable sustainable restoration of parts of high value with an efficient repair process.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement research projects.
  • Supervise and mentor junior researchers and students.
  • Publish research findings in reputable journals and present at conferences.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a relevant field, such as Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • At least 2 years of experience in research and development in the maritime sector.
  • Excellent knowledge of maritime practice and experience in maintenance and repair.
  • Affinity with solid mechanics and materials engineering.
  • Demonstrable good command of the Dutch and English language (at least level C1).

What We Offer

  • A gross monthly salary between € 4,361.31 and € 6,114.87 (VSNU profile Researcher 3 scale 11), based on a full-time appointment and depending on education and experience.
  • An end-of-year bonus of 8.3% and holiday allowance of 8% of your gross annual salary.
  • 10.7 holiday weeks per year with a 40-hour working week.
