Job Title: Professional Doctorate Candidate in Maritime Field

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Professional Doctorate Candidate to join our team in the maritime field. As a Professional Doctorate Candidate, you will conduct practice-oriented research that contributes to the sustainability, safety, and competitiveness of the maritime sector.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct practice-oriented research in the maritime field, focusing on sustainability, safety, and competitiveness.
  • Develop and implement novel repair methodologies, such as the cold spray method, to enable sustainable restoration of parts of high value with an efficient repair process.
  • Collaborate with our multidisciplinary team to develop and implement research projects that address the needs of the maritime sector.
  • Contribute to the development of new capabilities and technologies that can be used to improve the sustainability, safety, and competitiveness of the maritime sector.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in the maritime field or a relevant field, such as Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of maritime practice and experience in maintenance and repair.
  • Affinity with solid mechanics and materials engineering background.
  • Prior experience in mechanical testing and/or materials characterization is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrable good command of the Dutch and English language (at least level C1).
  • Demonstrable research and publication experience is a plus.
What We Offer:
  • A gross monthly salary between € 4,361.31 and € 6,114.87 (VSNU profile Researcher 3 scale 11), based on a full-time appointment and depending on education and experience.
  • An end-of-year bonus of 8.3% and holiday allowance of 8% of your gross annual salary.
  • 10.7 holiday weeks per year with a 40-hour working week.
