Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Engineering to join our team at Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht. As a key member of our hotel's leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the technical operations of our property, ensuring that all facilities and equipment are maintained to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and control engineering activities to ensure a high standard of service and excellent guest experience.
  • Coordinate and monitor the workload of the engineering team, delegating tasks to Assistant Engineering Managers as needed.
  • Generate forecasts, reports, and statistics to inform decision-making and drive business growth.
  • Conduct regular site walks to oversee daily tasks and ensure compliance with legislation and regulations.
  • Make incident reports for health and safety and security, and ensure diligent maintenance and certification of all building equipment.
  • Implement and maintain control measures to guarantee equipment functionality and compliance standards.
  • Play an integral role in achieving Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) targets within the organization.
  • Monitor and optimize energy consumption strategies in alignment with ESG goals.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure adherence to local ESG targets and regulations.
  • Assist the team in their work as needed, carrying out repairs and maintenance works.
  • Ensure effective energy conservation measures in areas of operations.
  • Ensure fire, life, and safety systems are operational, performing related emergency procedures.
  • Diagnose malfunctions in systems and components and rectify defects.
  • Participate in the selection and development of engineering colleagues in consultation with the Human Resources Department.

Requirements

  • At least two years' experience as an Engineering Manager, ideally in the hospitality industry.
  • A relevant university degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering and/or Facility Management.
  • Excellent knowledge of the technical field and familiarity with hotel-specific challenges.
  • Proven experience in facilities maintenance and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong understanding of ESG principles and their application in a corporate setting.
  • Familiarity with local legislation regarding building equipment certification and compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with internal and external stakeholders effectively.
  • Great administrative skills, paired with strong leadership and a service-oriented mindset.
  • Good language and communication skills in English and preferably in Dutch.
