Position Overview
The Project Development Office (PDO) serves as the primary resource for all initiatives related to securing research funding and developing project proposals. Our mission is to assist researchers in identifying compelling funding opportunities, refining their research concepts, and crafting competitive project submissions. Throughout the project lifecycle, we collaborate closely with various departments, including Finance, Legal, HR, Data Management, and Ethics, as well as project development officers and program managers from other institutes within TU/e's Research Support Network.
Role Responsibilities
- As a Research Funding Consultant, you will be the go-to expert for securing research funding and formulating new projects. You will possess a comprehensive understanding of the regulations set forth by various funding bodies (such as NWO and the European Commission) and have cultivated a network of pertinent academic and industry contacts.
- Your expertise will allow you to align promising funding opportunities with innovative research ideas. You will work alongside researchers to explore new research avenues and assist them in articulating their challenges, methodologies, solutions, and potential impacts in project proposals or business collaborations.
- You will alleviate researchers' concerns regarding the administrative aspects of project development and initiation, while also monitoring projects throughout their execution.
Expectations
- Demonstrated understanding of current and emerging trends in both national and European funding landscapes, enabling you to connect opportunities with the expertise and research interests of departmental researchers.
- Proactive support for researchers in acquiring research projects, including expanding your network of internal and external stakeholders, aiding in project initiatives, consortium building, proposal writing, and ensuring overall proposal quality.
- Management of the administrative components of project development, such as navigating grant regulations, establishing budgets in collaboration with Finance, overseeing submission processes, and supporting contract negotiations with the legal team upon grant approval.
- Contributing to the centralized administration of project applications, management information, and project case files, serving as a key resource for project-related inquiries.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in supporting the acquisition of research funding and project development, with a thorough understanding of the regulations imposed by various funding organizations.
- Experience in establishing high-quality research and innovation projects, with a strong ability to structure and substantiate research ideas in compelling project proposals and collaborations.
- A collaborative team player, capable of working effectively with researchers, support staff, and colleagues from other departments, universities, and industry partners.
- Exceptional communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with proficiency in Dutch being a plus.
- Goal-oriented, proactive, organized, reliable, and recognized as a trusted advisor. Ability to work flexibly under deadline pressure.
- A solid understanding of scientific processes (minimum MSc. in a technical discipline), with the ability to relate to researchers and their motivations.
Employment Conditions
This position offers an exciting opportunity within the Project Development Office of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. Salary will be commensurate with experience and in accordance with the CAO Dutch Universities. A one-year contract will be provided, with the possibility of a permanent contract following a positive evaluation.
The role is full-time (1.0 fte) with a gross monthly salary ranging from €4,492 (scale 11 or 12), depending on education and experience. A part-time appointment of 0.8 fte (32 hours per week) is also available. Hybrid work arrangements, combining on-campus and remote work, are possible. Additional benefits include an annual holiday allowance of 8%, an end-of-year allowance of 8.3%, a total of 41 days of vacation leave, and a comprehensive benefits package, including excellent technical infrastructure, commuting allowance, pension scheme, childcare, and outstanding sports facilities.
