Position Overview
The Project Development Office (PDO) serves as the central resource for all initiatives related to securing research funding and crafting project proposals. Our mission is to assist researchers in identifying promising funding sources, refining their research concepts, and creating competitive project submissions. Throughout the project lifecycle, we collaborate closely with colleagues from Finance, Legal, HR, Data Management, and Ethics, as well as project development officers, program managers, and researchers from various departments within TU/e's Institutes, forming a cohesive Research Support Network.
Role Responsibilities
- As a Research Funding Advisor, you will be the go-to expert for securing research funding and initiating new projects. You will possess a thorough understanding of the regulations set forth by various funding bodies (such as NWO and the European Commission) and have established a network of relevant academic and industry contacts. Your expertise will allow you to align compelling opportunities with innovative research ideas.
- You will actively engage with researchers to explore new research concepts, assisting them in articulating their challenges, methodologies, solutions, and the potential impact of their project proposals or business collaborations.
- Your role will also involve alleviating researchers' concerns regarding the administrative aspects of project development and initiation, while monitoring projects throughout their execution.
Expectations
- A strong grasp of current and emerging trends in both national and European funding landscapes, enabling you to align opportunities with the expertise and research interests of department researchers.
- Proactive support for researchers in securing research projects, expanding your network of internal and external stakeholders, facilitating project initiatives, assisting in consortium building, and enhancing proposal quality through persuasive writing.
- Management of the administrative facets of project development, including navigating grant regulations, budget preparation (in collaboration with Finance), submission processes, and contract negotiations (with TU/e's legal team) upon grant approval.
- Contributing to a centralized administration of project applications, management information, and project case files, serving as a key resource for project-related inquiries.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise and experience in supporting the acquisition of research funding and developing new projects, with a comprehensive understanding of funding organization regulations.
- Experience in establishing high-quality research and innovation projects, with a focus on structuring and substantiating research ideas in compelling project proposals and collaborations.
- A collaborative team player, working effectively with researchers, support staff, and other departments, universities, and industry partners.
- Exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal) in English, with proficiency in Dutch being a plus.
- Goal-oriented, proactive, organized, reliable, and recognized as a trusted advisor. Flexibility and the ability to work under pressure are essential.
- A solid understanding of scientific processes (minimum MSc. in a technical discipline), with the ability to relate to researchers and their needs.
Employment Conditions
This position offers an exciting opportunity within the Project Development Office of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. Salary will be commensurate with experience and in accordance with the CAO Dutch Universities. A one-year contract will be provided, with the possibility of a permanent contract following a successful evaluation.
The role is full-time (1.0 fte) with a gross monthly salary ranging from €4,492 (scale 11 or 12), depending on education and experience. A part-time appointment of 0.8 fte (32 hours per week) is also an option. Hybrid work arrangements are available. Additionally, we offer an annual holiday allowance of 8%, an end-of-year allowance of 8.3%, a total of 41 days of holiday leave, and a comprehensive benefits package, including excellent technical infrastructure, commuting allowance, pension scheme ABP, childcare, and outstanding sports facilities.
